Dräger Primus anaesthesia ventilator

The Dräger Primus is an anaesthesia workstation designed to ventilate patients and monitor respiratory parameters during surgery. It features the E-Vent plus electronically controlled, electrically driven piston ventilator, which delivers volume-controlled or pressure-controlled ventilation. The system brings ventilation, anaesthetic gas delivery and monitoring together on a single platform built for the operating room.

The Primus offers several ventilation modes, including manual/spontaneous ventilation, volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) and pressure-controlled ventilation (PCV). Depending on the options installed, it can also provide pressure support (PS), synchronised intermittent mandatory ventilation (SIMV) and synchronised pressure-controlled ventilation. In volume mode, tidal volume is adjustable from 20 to 1,400 mL, with an optional extension down to 5 mL.

Integrated monitoring on the Dräger Primus is shown on a configurable 12.1-inch colour screen. It displays ventilation parameters, including volumes, pressures and respiratory rate, as well as inspired and expired anaesthetic gas concentrations. The unit also runs an automated self-test that includes a leak check. Its architecture allows additional monitoring screens to be added, and a built-in backup power supply provides at least 30 minutes of operation.
